The Best Music for 2007

Well, hope XMAS was great for everyone!

As so many people do during this time of the year, it's time to announce my 'best of' lists for 2007. However, my lists are uber-cool and worth checking out. Why? Because I don't subscribe to pop culture crap, making my views totally unique. Over the upcoming week, look for "best of" lists for music, film, and anything else that comes to mind.

I tend to like harder-edge music, but I found some great stuff this year across several genres. My list doesn't follow any order, and are usually artists you've either never heard about or forgotten. So, without further insult, here's my top albums:

* Rush: Snakes and Arrows - a renaissance in the Rush camp took place this year with the best album from these guys since Counterparts. The band from Canada, best known for Tom Sawyer in the '80s, hooked up with a new producer Nick Raskulinecz (Foofighters and others) to deliver the surprise album of 2007. Listen to "Workin' Them Angels," "Armor and Sword," and "We Hold On," along with any of the great instrumentals, to learn how far this band has come;
* KT Tunstall: Drastic Fantastic - Tunstall delivers so many great songs on this album that it's hard to highlight just a few. For now, I recommend "Little Favours" and "If Only." Great to see Tunstall hit the music lotto again, as I really liked 2006's "Acoustic Extravaganza."
* Colbie Caillat: Coco - From track 1's "Oxygen" to 12's "Capri," Caillat delivers a warm, inviting, and down-home product. The mood she paints is so captivating that I find myself listening to it more often than others on my list. This one's a real winner and definitely worth your time!
* Maroon 5: It Won't Be Soon Till Long - This one's got the cool groove set that's perfect for driving. I like every track on this production, but won't take time telling you which songs I like, as so many of you probably have this album!
* Paul McCartney: Memory Almost Full - Like I said previously, I love artists that continue to put out quaity music, even if the loser-ites at RIA want you to love the newest Rap/Hip-Hop poo. Paul McCartney continues to impress me with his later works. As the title insinuates, Memory is dark, expressive, and hauntingly aware of itself. McCartney is in a late-career creative peak, and it shows with tracks like "Dance Tonight" and "Vintage Clothes." Buy, beg, borrow, and steal to get your hands on this one!!

Stay tuned this week for more lists!
